Using the Chunky plugin to pre-generate chunks in your Minecraft server can significantly boost performance. It reduces lag by eliminating the need for the server to generate chunks in real-time during gameplay.
Setup Steps
- Install the Chunky Plugin. Visit your server's console, and navigate to More --> Plugin Installer. Search for "Chunky", and install the correct version for your server. Make sure the installed version is for Spigot/Paper.
- Restart your Server
- Set the chunk generation center. Run the command /chunky center <x> <z>. For example, to center at (0, 0), run /chunky center 0 0.
- Next, define the radius of the pre-generation chunk. Run /chunky radius <radius>, replacing <radius> with the actual radius of the chunk you want to pre-generate.
- You may also set the world you would like to pre-generate using /chunky world (world)
- Begin the chunk pre-generation process, run /chunky start. Generation progress can be viewed from the server console.
Additional: Adding a Chunky World Border (Optional but Recommended)
To prevent players from going beyond the pre-generated area, you can install the ChunkyBorder plugin to create a world border.
- Go to the previous plugin installer tab, and install the Spigot/Paper plugin for ChunkyBorder with the correct server version.
- Restart your server to load the plugin.
- All you need to do is run /chunky border add. This places a border around the pre-generated chunks to restrict players from exploring unloaded terrain.
You’ve successfully pre-generated your Minecraft world using Chunky and set up a border to enhance performance and stability!
